Is Bathroom Privacy an Outdated Concept?
Apparently, people nowadays are less concerned than they have ever been with bathroom privacy. Increasingly, cutting-edge bathrooms are designed behind thin glass screens instead of opaque walls, and they’re plopped right in the middle of living rooms and bedrooms instead of tucked discretely in a corner. In these new bathrooms, you can see naked silhouettes and hear what’s going on in the bathroom from public living areas.
These bathrooms are particularly common among couples who live alone together and are not concerned about privacy, but increasingly families are designing them as well. It’s enough to make you wonder whether bathroom privacy is an outdated concept.
In today’s culture, the shift toward less privacy makes sense. Reality shows depicting celebrities and participants “living their lives” with no privacy are common. People share the most intimate details of their lives online on social networking sites and blogs. Everywhere the line between public and private life appears to be dissolving. Perhaps the bathroom is the final frontier.
