Germs in Public Bathrooms: Should You Be Worried?

Do public bathrooms make you squirm? The thought of all the germs that could be lurking in public bathrooms is enough to make some people want to hold it until they get home. For many people, using public bathrooms involves a complicated navigation where you flush with your foot, squat over the toilet seat, and generally do your best to make sure your skin doesn’t touch anything. But is that really necessary?

Bathroom Cameras: Necessary Security or a Violation of Privacy?

NBC News recently reported that a Florida man is suing his city for violation of privacy because of cameras in bathrooms at Colohatchee Park.

 The man believed the bathroom cameras violated his privacy, and believes local police were watching him use the restrooms. According to the man’s lawyer, the city initially installed the cameras because it wanted to prevent sexual contact in the bathrooms.  The man believes the city has gone too far.

Gender-Neutral Bathrooms at Universities?

At the University of Vermont , the college administration has added gender-neutral bathrooms. While administration does give some lip service to improving handicapped access, the purpose of these bathrooms is mostly to limit discrimination against transgendered students, who might ordinarily feel uncomfortable at being forced to choose between male and female bathrooms.
